We're a small Austin outfit that runs a single day out — and spends all its attention on getting that one day right.
Who we are
Locals who got tired of being the designated driver.
Long Horn Wine Tours started with a simple problem: the Hill Country is forty-five minutes from downtown Austin, it's full of good barbecue and better wine, and there is no sensible way to enjoy both if somebody has to drive home.
So we bought a van, worked out a route that actually fits in a day, and set the group size at ten. Not twenty. Not a coach. Ten — small enough that the guide knows everybody's name by the second stop, and small enough that a winery can seat us without a fuss.
We only run one tour. That's on purpose. It means we know the road, the pit masters and the tasting-room staff, and it means the schedule holds even on a Saturday in April.
The region
Why the Texas Hill Country.
The stretch of country between Austin and Fredericksburg is one of the largest wine regions in the United States, with more than fifty wineries scattered across the limestone hills.
The conditions here suit big, warm-climate grapes: long growing seasons, rocky soil that makes the vines work for it, and nights cool enough to keep the acid in the fruit. That's why so much of what you'll taste is Tempranillo, Mourvèdre and Viognier rather than the varieties you'd expect from California — the growers plant what the ground wants.
Most of it spends time in oak, which is where the vanilla and baking-spice notes come from. The short version: the wine here tastes like Texas, not like a copy of somewhere else.

Book a seat
Pick a date and reserve online. Ten seats per departure and they go fast on weekends, so book early if you have a date in mind. Free cancellation up to 24 hours out.
Show up at 10:15
Meet us at 2103 S Congress with a photo ID. Bring a card for food and tastings, sunglasses, and shoes you don't mind getting a little dusty.
Nothing
No driving, no navigating, no watching the clock. We handle arrivals and reservations at every stop and get you back to the same curb by about five.

Stops are subject to availability. If a winery can't take us on your date, we swap in another Hill Country vineyard of the same standing and tell you before you board.

I’m so glad I booked this solo trip. I was made to feel very welcome by our guide, Moe, and fellow passengers. As a vegetarian, I was hesitant to book based on the Salt Lick BBQ stop but I had the vegetable plate and cobbler. It was delicious and a huge portion. … Moe was great on keeping us informed and on schedule. Very friendly and accommodating. He remembered that I’d arrived solo with an Uber and he told me exactly how far in advance to order the return one so I wasn’t too long in the sun. This tour exceeded my expectations. Not being into BBQ or a heavy wine drinker, I still had enough options to make it worth it and have an amazing adventure. I would highly recommend it.
We had such a great experience on the Texas Hill Country BBQ and Wine Tour from Austin! The entire day was so well organized, the wineries were beautiful, and the BBQ was a great way to start the trip. What really made the experience stand out, though, was our tour guide, Mo. He was friendly, knowledgeable, fun, and made the whole group feel comfortable from the start. You could tell he genuinely cared about everyone having a great time. He shared interesting information throughout the tour, kept everything running smoothly, and made the day feel relaxed and enjoyable. Had an amazing time on the Texas Hill Country Wine & BBQ Tour! One thing I really liked was the pickup location at 7-Eleven. It gave everyone a chance to grab snacks, drinks, coffee, or use the restroom before heading out for the day, which made the start of the trip very convenient. The wineries were beautiful, the wine tastings were excellent, and the BBQ stop was a perfect Texas experience. Everything was well organized, relaxed, and enjoyable from start to finish. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Austin!
